The Regional Sales Manager will be responsible for managing a team of sales representatives and meeting or exceeding established program sales and market share targets wit! hin a given geographical territory targeting physicians (emergency department and psychiatry), ED and psych nurses, pharmacists and purchasing personnel in a hospital setting. The RSM will act as a "Player-Coach", working side by side with his/her sales representatives in key target accounts ensuring optimal representative and account performance.

  • Responsible for overall staff supervision and management within a given region
  • Maintain a fully staffed and productive region, by managing vacancies and turnover though active involvement in the recruitment and selection process
  • Thorough understanding of Pharmaceutical Industry, account management, the hospital segment and marketing concepts in order to influence targeted physicians (emergency department and psychiatry), ED and psych nurses, pharmacists and purchasing personnel in a hospital setting
  • Previous knowledge of and demonstrated success in selling to physicians and nurses in the hos! pital setting including success in developing support for and ! achieving hospital formulary approval and drug therapy protocol initiation and implementation
  • Accountability for regional sales objectives and manages to the development of regional business objectives. Consistently meet and exceed sales goals within region
  • Utilize effective sales techniques in order to influence targeted hospital physicians, nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy directors, medical directors and purchasing personnel
  • Manage district to achieve daily sales call activity / client deliverables by helping to gain access to prescribing decision makers and influencing purchasing decisions
  • Positively impact sales in region, display knowledge of key customers, plan, analyze and act upon sales and competitive data within geography
  • Must be the resident regional expert possessing solid knowledge and understanding of all assigned products, disease states, treatment regimes, competitor products, market and industry
  • Maintain c! urrent and competent working knowledge of product line to educate customer and increase customer’s likeliness to prescribe the product
  • Conduct and provide meaningful field evaluations and complete necessary call reports, including record of call and weekly call reports, other paperwork and expense reports within specified timeframes
  • Manage administrative responsibilities, including pre-call planning, territory management and material inventory
  • Deliver customized presentations and organize events based on customer’s needs
  • Manage representative call expectations for required face to face calls
  • Proactively identify problems / opportunities and solutions for process / performance improvement
  • Build strong relationships and customer loyalty within key accounts/institutions
  • Experience associated with the the promotion of products tied to a REMS program a plus
  • Demonstrate PDI key values and behaviors
  • Position Requirements

    • Bachelors Degree from an a! ccredited institution required
    • Minimum of 10 years pharmaceutical sales and account management experience with a minimum of 3 years as a DSM and 3 years as a Regional Director in a pharmaceutical VA/DOD and or hospital sales and account management environment
    • Injectable IV or experience in the therapeutic area of pain management or CNS within a VA/DOD or hospital setting highly preferred
    • Working relationship with emergency rooms, psychiatrists, support personnel, pharmacy directors and purchasing professionals within teaching, community and VA/DOD hospitals is preferred
    • broad understanding of Pharmacy and Medical Director roles in the hospital formulary process required as well as providing specific examples of understanding of the formulary process and quantifiable achievement examples
    • Solid understanding of the dynamics of psychiatry and psycho-social behavior a benefit
    • Must possess proven, documented sales track recor! d
    • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills a must
    • Must possess persuasive communication skills, a fortitude to sell and compete, and be a self starter
    • Product launch experience a significant plus
    • Strong planning, organizational and PC skills
    • Daily and overnight travel is required / Minimum 4 days per week in the field expected
