:

Reporting to the Pharmacy Operations Manager, under close supervision and following prescribed procedures, assists Staff Pharmacists in pro! cessing physician medication orders by ensuring medications are promptly, accurately and safely delivered, charged for and credited.

Prepares medication for delivery to patients, and labels pharmaceutical orders. Maintains records related to drug use and charges.

This position requires the Technician to be proficient in both of the major areas of Pharmacy, i.e., dispensing oral medications and in preparation of oral solutions.

Although duties may vary by assigned area or shift, the following accurately describes the essential job functions.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served, including neonatal, pediatric, adult and geriatric.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

:

1.

The job incumbent is required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients ! served.

This requires that the incumbent demonstrates! knowledge of the principles of growth and development as well as the physical, emotional and psycho-social needs of the patient population served.

2.

Ability to read and write an order, to review and update patient profiles, understand and follow written and verbal instructions in order to mix solutions and prepare medica­tions, and perform basic arithmetic calculations when filling prescrip­tions, measuring solutions and so forth at a level normally acquired through completion of high school. Knowledge of pharmaceutical and medical terminology helpful.

3.

Ability to type at acceptable levels of speed and accuracy in order to prepare medication labels at a level normally acquired through completion of one to three months course work in touch?typing which can be obtained in high school.

4.

Approximately six months on the job experience necessary in order to learn and develop proficiencies in preparation of oral medicaÂ! ­tions, packaging methods, patient billing procedures and Medical Center policies and procedures.

5.

Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with various

personnel when gathering and exchanging factual pharmaceutical information.

6.

Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when packaging medications, preparing solutions, maintaining records and the like.

7.

Current state license as a Pharmacy Technician required. Technician must also satisfy requirements for National Certification as dictated by the Illinois Pharmacy Practice Act.
