The Clinical Pharmacist, Utilization Management-Specialty will be primarily responsible for the development and maintenance of patient and provider educational and training materials, along with patient management programs associated with specialty pharmaceuticals. Develop and maintain CMS-compliant drug utilization management strategies/policies (e.g. create and maintain coverage pol! icies for quantity limits, step therapies, age/gender limits a! nd prior authorizations).
Work collaboratively with clients and clinical account managers to assist in design of custom drug utilization management programs.
Assist with management of the Catamaran drug utilization management strategy process including participation in the Utilization Management Committee.
Be aware of current and emerging trends in formulary utilization management strategies.
Continuously look for ways to streamline and improve the quality of the drug utilization management strategy process.
Assist in the training and mentoring of pharmacy residents, students, and interns.
Other activities as determined by the Senior Manager, Formulary Services and/or Director, Clinical Services.
Pharm D degree and pharmacy licensure or eligibility to be licensed in the state of Illinois.
Excellent knowledge of all aspects of drug utilization management process including, but not limited to, the development/maintenance of coverage polici! es for quantity limits, step therapies, age/gender limits, prior authorizations and the communication of drug utilization management program updates to internal colleagues and external clients.
Proficient in critical literature evaluation skills, including evidence-based medicine principles.
Strong knowledge of MediSpan data system, including GPI drug classification system.
Familiarity with prescription benefits, Medicare Part D/Medicaid, claims processing and formulary design.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
Strong customer service orientation and commitment to professionalism.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Residency trained plus a minimum of one year of clinical experience (without residency, minimum three years of of clinical experience).
Previous experience in drug utilization management or formulary management.
Strong cli! nical background in PBM, managed care or clinic practice settings desir! ed.
