POSITION SUMMARY:
The individual must have hands-on assessment and implementation laboratory consulting experience in the provider setting. In addition, this candidate must have had a management role in a laboratory department in a tertiary or academic health centers. The Laboratory Subject Matter Specialist ! (SMS) will work nationally with healthcare providers in all aspects of our laboratory consulting including operations, business planning and supply chain.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Demonstrate expertise in clinical and administrative laboratory operations, including resource optimization
Analyze work flow, staffing patterns, organizational design and impact of technology and automation in the hospital, ambulatory and outpatient settings.
Develop and implement initiatives to increase laboratory efficiency and productivity.
Identify value creation opportunities for pertinent NCI engagements; manage financial assessment to develop business case and validate alternatives in laboratory business models. This would include insourcing vs. outsourcing trade offs, reference lab analytics, outreach laboratory analytics, laboratory consolidation analytics, among others
Identify opportunities and implement strategies to improve test formularies, including! point of care, blood utilization and management, reference laboratory ! in-sourcing/outsourcing optimization.
Demonstrate expertise and understanding of end-to-end laboratory supply chain business processes. Manage laboratory value analysis teams and steering committees.
Evaluate and negotiate laboratory contracts involving equipment, reagents, disposables, and supplies; as well as purchased services (e.g. pathology group affiliations and reference laboratory).
Identify opportunities to improve laboratory revenue cycle, e.g., fee schedule strategies, implementation of outreach program, and CDM review.
Work independently in client facing situations and guide others in the design, development, and implementation of innovative supply chain solutions, and/or design and implementation of improvements to existing processes in the laboratory services.
Work with teams through the assessment, problem definition, solution development, issue and risk identification/mitigation, and work plan development to ensure quality results that ex! ceed our client's expectations.
Work collaboratively, in a team-oriented environment to deliver innovative solutions to our clients.
Solidify the ability to mentor more junior NCI professionals.
Have ability, knowledge, confidence and experience to stand a Laboratory 'expert' both within the Firm as well as with our clients

Graduate degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Business, Healthcare Administration or Industrial Engineering. Master's degree preferred
Three to five years (minimum) management experience in direct laboratory operations, in a provider setting
Three to five years of consulting experience in the provider setting and/or subject matter described above
Proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills and ability to independently produce documents or aptitude to develop this level of skill within a defined period of time
Lean Certification preferred
Flexible, positive, clear interpersonal and co! mmunication skills with ability to facilitate the exchange of informati! on within all levels of NCI as well as a provider based, client organization, including, but not limited to, surgeons, anesthesiologists, hospital executives, and other professional and ancillary staff.
Analytical skills related to independently interpreting, preparing and analyzing budget, profit and loss, volume, operations, workload and supply chain data.
Ability to develop and monitor performance metrics at all levels of the laboratory processes
Knowledge of and familiarity with IT solutions and data bases which are integral to enabling efficient and appropriate Laboratory processes
Knowledge of and ability to ensure and promote, consistent, quality oriented, national leading practices, in all recommendations.
Capacity to adapt and lead others to understand and accept values, strategies, goals and plans in response to changing business conditions.
Ability and willingness to travel full time.
