The Academic Computing and Communications Center (ACCC) provides central computer support to the UIC campus community. Our major services include network, wireless and Internet connectivity; Blackboard, public labs, classrooms, and instructional technology and services; digital and analog telephony; email, calendar, emergency communications, identity management, research computing, and other business tools.
The University of Illinois at Chicago seeks a Director- Instructional Technology Lab, reporting to the Chief Information Officer and Executive Director of ACCC to:
Manage the Instructional Technology Lab, with oper! ational responsibility for the LMS and related systems, support of faculty and students regarding teaching and learning services and technologies and management of the ITL physical offices.
Advise Executive Director on services and technologies involving teaching and learning, including Learning Management Systems.
Evaluate industry trends in products and services for use in online/distance education, collaboration and other teaching/learning technologies.
Liaison with departments, and campus committees regarding instructional design, services and technology related to teaching and learning.
Provide detailed technical counsel and expertise regarding all aspects of teaching and learning, to Executive Director and other department groups.
Review and initiate programs that commit department resources; recommend and establish policies relating to department support of teaching and learning activities, technologies, services and resources.
Provide experti! se to internal teams and task forces on campus.
Train department st! aff to ensure consistent, high quality support to faculty, staff, and student on recent technology trends and systems.
Direct development of training guides, manuals, manuals workshops, webinars, how-to documents and other materials for dissemination and education of existing or new technologies & services for UIC faculty, staff and students.
Organize seminars to bring resources, vendors and experts to educate and introduce new ideas, products or services.
Manage and maintain relationships with vendors and contractors in support of teaching and learning, and related technologies and services.
Develop and create monthly and annual performance reports and external reports, identifying and maintaining records and data needed.
Implement operation policies and procedures for daily administrative matters regarding the ITL.
Develop policy recommendations for unit, coordinating with related groups in department.
Staff Management - Plan, assign and review! work of staff to ensure that group objectives are met. Hire, train, develop and manage staff to ensure that a qualified staff exists to meet group objectives.
Perform other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.
Education, Experience, Job Knowledge & Skills:
Education REQUIRED: A Master's degree in Education, Instructional or Educational Technology or related field is required, with an emphasis on teacher education and development, educational technology or learning and teaching theories.
A minimum of 8 years progressively responsible experience in learning management systems and instructional services and technologies, which includes: 5 years teaching, management or other related administrative experience; Designing and developing instructor-led, web-based and digital media instruction in higher education; Pedagogical and technical consulting for design, development and implementation of instructional conte! nt, courses and projects; Integrating technology into educational envir! onments; Administration of online courses and support of faculty; and experience with Blackboard or other LMS in higher education preferred.
Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills with strong leadership, organizational, customer relationship and interpersonal skills are a must.
