Department: The Pharmacy Department at St. Elizabeth’s utilizes state-of-the-art technologi! es including electronic medical records and intervention documentation providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care. Bedside bar-coding at the point-of- care, computerized prescriber order entry and smart pump technology are examples of pharmacy activities in advancing patient care and safety.
Job: The successful Pharmacy Technician (PT) - Medication Reconciliation will perform medication history assessments in the Emergency Department for new admissions to the hospital, provide complete information regarding each medication identified (i.e., drug, dose, route, frequency, indication for PRN, and date/time of the last dose taken), and coordinate the medication history assessment with the healthcare team. The PT will assist the pharmacist in preparing and distributing drugs while also maintaining drug inventory and records. A high level of accuracy and an attention to detail are essential skills needed for this position. As a member of the health care team, the PT m! ust have the ability to set priorities and solve problems inde! pendently. The PT will possess a working knowledge of common outpatient medication doses, dosage forms, and indications. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required to interact with patients, coworkers, and other healthcare professionals.
Requirements:
1. High School or GED;
2. Current Pharmacy Tech registration in IL or eligible;
3. Pharmacy Tech Certification Board (PTCB) or obtained within six months of hire date;
4. Minimum of two years Pharmacy Tech experience or one year experience performing medication history interviews; and
5. Experience in general use of pharmacy computer systems.
Preferred:
1. Retail pharmacy experience including prescription transcription duties.
