This position is located within the

PT SVCS ANCILLARY PHARMACY

at the CAPT James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) in North Chicago, IL. The FHCC is a first-of-its-kind partnership between the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), and Department of Navy (DoN)/Department of Defense (DoD). It is larger than just a single facility, but rather it is a fully-integrated medical care facility with a single combined VA and Navy mission. The combined mission of the FHCC means active duty military and their family members, military retirees, and eligible veterans receive health care at this facility.

These vacancies are advertised at the single grade at which this position will be filled above the full performance level.

DUTIES:
The Inpatient Pharmacy Supervisor is responsible for the daily professional and administrative/personnel management of the Inpatient Pharmacy section. The Inpatient Pharmacy S! upervisor is responsible to ensure that timely, safe efficacious, appropriate, and cost effective drug therapy is provided with a minimum risk to the hospitalized FHCC patient. Drug dispensing, drug information, and drug therapy monitoring are included in this program. The Inpatient Pharmacy Supervisor is responsible for the personnel management of the Inpatient Pharmacy staff.

The Inpatient Pharmacy Supervisor will be involved in the independent practice of pharmacy. In consult with the Pharmacy Assistant Division Officer and Pharmacy Division Officer, the Inpatient Pharmacy Supervisor is responsible for the professional and administrative management of the inpatient pharmacy personnel and programs in accordance with the guidance set forth in the Pharmacy Division policies and procedures, VA/DoD regulations, and state and federal laws governing the practice of pharmacy. The incumbent will be under administrative supervision of the Assistant Chief, Pharmacy Divisio! n, as well as the Pharmacy Division Officer, and must possess the knowl! edge and skills to perform functions that include but are not limited to Administration/Supervision, Clinical, Education, Program Management, Security, and Research.

WORK SCHEDULE:
Monday - Friday; 8:00 am - 4:30 pm and may have to cover shifts as needed.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY:

EDUCATION:
Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. Graduates of foreign pharmacy degree programs meet the educational requirement if the graduate is able to provide proof of achieving the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Commission (FPGEC) Certification, which includes passing the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT).

LICENSURE:
Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. The pharmacist must maintain current registration if this is a requirement for maintaini! ng full, current, and unrestricted licensure.

CREDITABLE EX! PERIENCE FOR GS-13 LEVEL:
Must have one (1) year of creditable experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12).

To be creditable,

the experience must have demonstrated the use of knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with professional pharmacy practice. Professional practice means paid/non-paid employment as a professional or unlicensed graduate pharmacist as defined by the appropriate licensing board.

Preferred Experience:
Knowledge and experience in dealing effectively with payroll, HR/personnel-related issues to include knowledge and experience of employee union requirements, performance evaluation process, disciplinary actions, recruiting/hiring, timekeeping, etc. Knowledge and experience in using computer software such as Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word., etc as well as electronic patient medical record systems. Knowledge of the day-to-day operations of an Inpatient Pharmacy to include unit dose! delivery and cart exchange, IV admixtures, chemotherapy, and automated medication delivery operations (Pyxis, Bar Code Medication Administration, ScriptPro, ATC, etc.). Ability to review available data and recommend action based on data interpretation, findings/trends and ability to mine, capture, and organize data from pharmacy systems to achieve desired outcomes.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Principal duti! es are administrative, and pharmacy related requiring for repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., use of computer keyboards, preparing IV admixtures, operating pharmacy equipment, handling drugs including IVs, etc.). May require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 44lbs), including boxes, equipment, unit dose-cassettes, and IV solutions; stooping or keeling (e.g, to pick up items from the floor, remove and replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawers, etc); sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours). Normal ranges of hearing and vision are required to perform work and communicate effectively; must have the visual ability to distinguish between basic colors and shades of color. An ability to perform tasks requiring rapid mental and muscular coordination functions simultaneously is necessary. Employees must be physically capable of operating various types of equipment used on the job. Employee may be required to wo! rk at various inpatient pharmacy locations as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Employee is typically expected to work forty hours per week, primarily day shift. However, as the need arises, this may include days, evenings, swing-shift, midnights, weekends and holidays as necessary for coverage. Work is performed in patient care areas/wards, office, pharmacy, and storage areas of the facility. Work areas are adequately heated and lighted. Potential exists for exposure to infectious patients or materials; exposure to hazardous and toxic substances including but not limited to cytotoxic chemotherapy, solvents, grease, oils, and cleaning solutions; sticks or cuts from hypodermic needles, lancets or other sharp items; musculoskeletal injuries if proper lifting and carrying techniques are not used; unusual musculoskeletal fatigue due to prolonged standing, electronic data processing, etc.; eye strain.
