Develops! , implements, and maintains Ann and Robert H. Lurie Childrenâs Hospital of Chicagoâs Clinical Informatics and Clinical Decision Support (CDS) program. Works in close collaboration with medical staff and hospital leaders and Information Management to foster improvements in care through utilization of the electronic health record (EHR), CDS and clinical analytics. Shows expertise in the use of technology to improve the quality, safety and efficiency of care delivery processes and outcomes, and the use of data to drive performance improvement. Provides leadership to marshal resources and guide successful implementation of improvements in clinical information systems to support excellent clinical outcomes. Understands patient care, human factors and process improvement methodologies, and is responsible for strategies that result in the effective design, development, and implementation of CDS. Fulfills an advisory role to both hospital and medical staff leaders including but! not limited to compliance, best practices and strategic impro! vement initiatives. Works collaboratively with organization leadership to align the use of the EHR with Lurie Childrenâs mission, strategic goals and the evolution of healthcare reform.

Area Specific Job Accountabilities:
Develops and manages Lurie Childrenâs Informatics and Clinical Decision Support (CDS) program using national standards, customer feedback and needs assessment tools.
Supports the organization by leading the design and implementation of clinical data collection strategies, analysis and reporting to facil! itate quality, performance improvement and research.
Develops metrics to quantify and assess the quality of CDS tools and programs used across CHCMC and effectively communicates successes and opportunities to the organization.
Develops an outcomes assessment program to monitor the impact of individual CDS interventions and uses the analysis to refine and improve the CDS intervention and/or clinical workflow.
Takes a leadership role in attaining compliance with Meaningful Use of the EHR in both the hospital and among eligible providers.
Serves as a process improvement expert in assisting clinicians and operational leaders in effective workflow design supported by the EHR and CDS.
Collaborates with Information Management, Quality Informatics Team and Physician Advisory Council to prioritize and implement CDS solutions for quality reporting, including Meaningful Use objectives and Quality Measures, regulatory compliance, patient saf! ety and workflow efficiencies.
Develops and implements project! plans to successfully meet the outcome goals and objectives as defined by the customer. Is able to understand and manage project scope.
Applies strong analytical skills to gather information from users, define work problems and develop improvements supported by technology, including measurement of outcomes related to the intervention.
Utilizes data to provide new information on clinical care and develop new knowledge to transform care at the bedside.
Produces scholarly output in the form of presentations, posters and publications.
Provides consultation and support for patient safety and quality improvement projects involving the use of electronic clinical information tools.
Promotes use of available functionality to ensure that the clinical data display at the user interface promotes physicians and clinicians making the best evidence-based clinical decisions.
Promotes use of evidenced-based practice guidelines incorpora! ted into the EHR to promote clinical decision making.
Serves as an expert in the design and implementation of interventions to optimize capture of clinical data during routine workflow and utilizing the data to inform and improve practice.
Communicates effectively with all members of the health care team and leadership.
Conducts, coordinates, and publishes research in health care informatics and seeks opportunities to collaborate with peer organizations throughout the country.
Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelorâs degree in healthcare related discipline. Masterâs degree or higher in Healthcare Administration, Clinical Informatics or related field strongly preferred.
Licensed Re! gistered Nurse or Pharmacist in the State of Illinois required.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in a healthcare setting.
Demonstrated knowledge of electronic health record technology and prior experience in implementing interventions to influence clinician behavior, improve quality and patient safety and reduce costs. Epic experience and/or certification preferred.
Working knowledge of healthcare reform, quality, patient safety and regulatory / compliance issues affecting healthcare at a national and local level.
Excellent project management and business analysis skills. Experience with process improvement methods, e.g. DMAIC, PDSA, Lean, Six Sigma, etc. is desired.
Strong communication and writing skills.
Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with clinicians and staff at all levels of the organization.
Strong leadership and change management skills to engage clinical leaders in managing accountabilities associated with enterprise clinical performance goals.
