GENERAL SUMMARY

:

Reports to the Pharmacy Operations Ma! nager and is responsible for compounding and dispensing medications and other pharmaceutical supplies according to established procedures and professional pharmacy practice.

Reviews prescrip­tions, obtains clarifications, analyzes drug therapy and regularly consults with medical staff, nursing personnel and others in order to coor­dinate delivery of high quality pharmaceuti­cal services to

patients. Although duties may vary by assigned area or shift, the following accurately describes the essential job functions.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served, including neonatal, pediatric, adult and geriatric.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

:

1.

The job incumbent is required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients s! erved on their assigned unit(s).

This requires that t! he incumbent demonstrates knowledge of the princi­ples of growth and devel­opment as well as the physical, emotional and psycho-social needs of the patient population served.

2.

A Bachelor's degree or Pharm D. in Pharmacy, supplemented by a one year internship. Incumbent must possess an in?depth under­standing of pharmaceuticals to prepare and dispense medica­tions and other pharmaceutical supplies in a safe manner, provide advice and guidance to physicians and nursing staff, and be eligible for licensure. Pharmacy PGY-1 Residency or three years hospital experience preferred but not required.

Current

State

license as a Pharmacist required.

4.

Approximately three to six months on the job training and orientation to become familiar with department and Medical Center policies, procedures and protocols necessary to assist in the safe prepara­tion and administration of medications and drugs to Medica! l Center pa­tients.

5.

Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with physicians, patients, and various other Medical Center personnel when explaining medication use and gathering and exchanging other medication information.

6.

Analytical skills necessary in order to determine drug appropriateness and evaluate drug interactions.
