The PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Resident position is a one year paid position.

Applicants are selected by the Reside! ncy Match program established by American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP).

The pharmacy resident reports to the PGY2 Residency Program Director. Reviews prescrip­tions, obtains clarifications, analyzes drug therapy and regularly consults with medical staff, nursing personnel and others in order to coor­dinate delivery of high quality pharmaceuti­cal services to

patients. Strives to meet goals and objectives established by ASHP for PGY2 Pharmacy Residents.

In addition, the pharmacy resident is responsible for compounding and dispensing medications and other pharmaceutical supplies according to established procedures and professional pharmacy practice.

Although duties may vary by assigned rotation or shift, the following accurately describes the essential job functions.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patie! nts served, including neonatal and pediatric.

KNOWLED! GE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

:

1.

The job incumbent is required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit(s).

This requires that the incumbent demonstrates knowledge of the princi­ples of growth and devel­opment as well as the physical, emotional and psycho-social needs of the patient population served.

2.

A Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy required in order to ensure an in?depth under­standing of pharmaceuticals to prepare and dispense medica­tions and other pharmaceutical supplies in a safe manner, provide advice and guidance to physicians and nursing staff, and be eligible for licensure.

Current

Illinois

State

license as a Pharmacist required.

4.

Completion of an ASHP PGY-1 pharmacy residency program! .

5.

Completes pharmacy resident job training and orientation to become familiar with department and

policies, procedures and protocols necessary to assist in the safe prepara­tion and administration of medications and drugs to

Center

pa­tients.

6.

Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with physicians, patients, and various other Medical Center personnel when explaining medication use and gathering and exchanging other medication information.

7.

Analytical skills necessary in order to determine drug appropriateness and evaluate drug interactions.
